My name is Martin and I studied Cyber and Computing Security at University of Gloucestershire. Before deciding to pursue a career in software development I previously worked in hospitality for ten years and during this time I qualified as a Mixologist (International bartender’s qualification). I had always been interested in computing so I decided to take the plunge by going back to College where I took a Computer Programing BTEC course and then onto University.
My role involves using lots of different technologies such as Python, Docker and GIT, to aid in developing new unique and exciting software. Day-to-day, I have been placed on a customer project where we take turns in leading the team each week, doing stand-ups and customer meetings and controlling the Kanban board. This has given me priceless experience in presenting to customers, developing my dev ops skills, soft skills and improving my confidence. There are so many skills and experiences to develop here. One of the main skills I have learned is the importance of learning Dev Ops to integrate processes and automation when developing software.
The opportunities presented at Northrop Grumman to improve both technical skills and soft skills are plentiful and having access to a technical mentor is brilliant and very beneficial.
