Northrop Grumman’s Advanced Weapons designs and produces advanced high speed strike missiles and aircraft warfare systems.
Strike Weapon Systems
Northrop Grumman’s Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM) is a supersonic, air-launched tactical missile system. It has the capability to perform Destruction of Enemy Air Defense missions and is an upgrade to the U.S. Navy AGM-88 HARM system. AARGM is able to rapidly engage traditional and advanced land- and sea-based air defense threats, as well as non-radar, time-sensitive strike targets. Northrop Grumman’s potential material solution to the U.S. Navy’s AARGM Extended Range requirement utilizes existing AARGM sensors, electronics and warhead.
Aircraft Survivability and Military Support
Northrop Grumman’s portfolio of aircraft self-protection equipment protects aircrews during combat missions. Products include the ShotFinder Acoustic Hostile Fire Detection System that identifies and directionally locates small arms fire, anti-aircraft artillery and rocket-propelled grenade threats, and the combat-proven AAR-47 Missile and Laser Warning System with Hostile Fire Indication electronic warfare system designed to protect helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from surface-to-air threats.
Northrop Grumman’s Common Munitions BIT/Reprogramming Equipment is a common piece of support equipment used to interface with weapon systems to initiate built-in tests, report BIT results, and upload/download flight software. CMBRE represents the first munitions support equipment developed as a “common” system for multiple munitions platforms
AN/AAR-47 Missile Warning System
The AN/AAR-47 is an electronic warfare system designed to protect aircraft against infrared-guided (IR) missile threats, laser-guided/laser-aided threats, and unguided munitions. Upon detection of the threat, the system will provide an audio and visual sector warning to the pilot. For IR missile threats, the system automatically initiates countermeasures by sending a command signal to the countermeasures dispensing set.
Shotfinder Acoustic Hostile Fire Detection System
Northrop Grumman’s Acoustic Hostile Fire Detection Systems provide detection of small caliber ball and tracer rounds, anti-aircraft artillery, unguided rockets, and rocket propelled grenades. The system is light-weight and easy to install and has multiple display options. The acoustic sensor can be used as a stand-alone Hostile Fire detection system or in conjunction with other Threat Warning Systems to provide a complete threat awareness capability.
Countermeasures Signal Simulator
The Countermeasures Signal Simulator is a lightweight test set that meets flight-line, ruggedized requirements to allow testing of all versions of the AN/AAR-47(V)2 missile-warning systems. With multiple operation modes, the CSS allows a dynamic operational test to verify missile warning function.
