Dr. Robert Fleming is corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman's Space Systems sector, a space and launch systems provider serving national security, civil and commercial customers. As lead for Space Systems, Dr. Fleming oversees the strategy, capture, design, build and delivery of space-related systems to government and commercial customers around the world both as a prime contractor and as a supplier.

As lead for Space Systems, Dr. Fleming oversees the strategy, capture, design, build and delivery of space-related systems to government and commercial customers around the world both as a prime contractor and as a supplier. Space Systems provides unrivaled end-to-end mission capabilities and cutting-edge technology across all space and launch domains including integrated deterrence; next-gen missile defense; launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; satellites, spacecraft and associated components; payloads; and ground systems.
Prior to this role, Dr. Fleming served as vice president and general manager of Space Systems’ Strategic Space Systems division, which provides strategic space solutions including national security, military and civil space end-to-end systems, protected and advanced mission communications, space science and exploration, space domain awareness, protection, resiliency, rapid prototyping and directed energy.
In his nearly 18-year career with Northrop Grumman, Dr. Fleming has led different businesses and functions in many of the company’s sectors. Previously, he served as Space Systems’ vice president of Strategy and Business Development, as well as led the Strategic Force Programs business unit as vice president of Programs for the Payload and Ground Systems Division. He served as vice president of Emerging Systems and Strategic Initiatives for Mission Systems sector’s Land & Avionics C4ISR division, and in previous vice president-level leadership positions, has led electronic warfare, targeting and tactical unmanned airborne systems programs and brought high-impact avionics programs from development to full-rate production.
He began his career in South Africa as a systems engineer working on jet fighter avionics and helicopter flight test. He holds a bachelor’s and a doctorate degree in electrical engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School General Management Program. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Fleming proudly serves the United States Navy as an active Reservist responsible for capability development, test and readiness of naval aviation airborne systems.
